In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “Ask you of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field. For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled because there was no shepherd”, and in chapter ten and verse three of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “my anger was kindled against the shepherds” where we read,
My anger was kindled against the shepherds, and I punished the goats: for the LORD of hosts has visited his flock the house of Judah, and has made them as his goodly horse in the battle.
The verse reads, “My anger was kindled against the shepherds, and I punished the goats:” Zechariah began with the words, “my anger was kindled” or “my, Jehovah God's, exceeding wrath that wrinkles the nostrils and nose existed as burning and furious” “against the shepherds” which means “in opposition to the rulers and leaders who feed, tend and pasture the flock”, “and I punished the goats” or “and I, Jehovah God, pay attention to, observe, visit and bring charge against the he-goats or leaders of the people”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God's wrath was burning in opposition to the leaders of the people of Israel, and He was to bring charge against those who lead them.
The verse goes on to say, “for the LORD of hosts has visited his flock the house of Judah, and has made them as his goodly horse in the battle.” Zechariah continued with the words, “for the LORD of hosts” or “because Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God who is over the spiritual army of angels and warriors” “has visited his flock” which means “”has attended to, observed and looked about for his, Jehovah God's, herd, drove or muster of animals “the house of Judah” or “the dwelling place, habitation and abode belonging to Judah whose name means praised and was the kingdom comprised of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin which occupied the southern part of Canaan after the nation split upon the death of Solomon”, “and has made them” which means “has put, set, directed and appointed them, the house of Judah” “as his goodly horse” or “similar and in likeness to his, Jehovah God's, swift or chariot horse of splendor, majesty and vigor” “in the battle” which means “within the fight and war”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God attended to His group of people within the dwelling place of “Judah” and was to employ them to be similar to His majestic chariot horse of war.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God was not only to be the defense for Judah and Israel, but He would use them to carry out His judgment. God is able to defeat and destroy any foe that is against His people, and He is more than able to defend us when we align with His plan of salvation through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we submit to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and defeat our greatest foe, the devil, while He employs us to fight in His battle against evil and those who desire to destroy people for all eternity. (Ephesians 6:12)
Next time Zechariah shares how Jehovah God says, “out of him came forth the corner”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
