In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah wrote, “Thus says the LORD of hosts; If it be marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvelous in my eyes? says the LORD of hosts”, and in chapter eight and verse seven of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how the LORD said, “I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country” where we read,
Thus says the LORD of hosts;
Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country;
The verse reads, “Thus says the LORD of hosts;” Zechariah began with the words, “thus says the LORD” or “therefore, then, wherefore and on this account utters, declares and proclaims Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “of hosts” which means “who is over the spiritual army of angels and warriors” the following words. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God who rules over the angel armies said the following words.
The verse goes on to say, “Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country;” Zechariah continued with the words, “behold, I will save my people” or “lo, look and consider, I, Jehovah God, shall deliver, rescue and give victory to my, Jehovah God's, human beings both male and female” “from the east country” which means “separate and apart from the country, territory, region and district that is located in an eastern direction”, “and from the west country” or “and separate and apart from the country, territory, region and district in the western direction”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said He would rescue His “people” from the territories in the eastern and western directions.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God was going to deliver His “people” Israel from eastern and western territories. Even though the people of Israel had forsaken God and His ways, He was still ready to bring them deliverance from areas surrounding their country. God loves the people of Israel, and He loves us as well. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and gather us from around the world to live with Him in His Kingdom of Heaven forever.
Next time Zechariah shares how the LORD says, “I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
