How Great is God's Goodness - Zechariah 9:17

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said of Israel, “the LORD of hosts shall defend them; and they shall devour, and subdue with sling stones; and they shall drink, and make a noise as through wine; and they shall be filled like bowls, and as the corners of the altar. And the LORD their God shall save them in that day as the flock of his people: for they shall be as the stones of a crown, lifted up as an ensign upon his land”, and in chapter nine and verse seventeen of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “how great is his goodness” where we read,

For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty!

corn shall make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids.

The verse reads, For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! Zechariah began with the words, “for how great is his goodness” or “because, since and on account that to what awesome and wonderful degree exists his, Jehovah God's, beauty, joy, prosperity and gladness”, “and how great” which means “and to what an awesome and wonderful degree” “is his beauty” or “exists his, Jehovah God's, sunning visual appearance”! Zechariah exclaimed the exceeding awesomeness of Jehovah God's prosperity, gladness and stunning appearance.

The verse goes on to say, “corn shall make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids. Zechariah continued with the words, “corn shall make the young men cheerful” or “wheat and grain will cause the youthful males to be germinating and flourishing”, “and new wine” which means “and fresh fruit of the vine”, “the maids” or “the youthful virgins”.Zechariah shared how the wheat and grain would cause the youthful males to flourish and the fresh fruit of the vine would cause youthful virgins to be glad.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God's “goodness and beauty”are exceedingly wonderful, and through the abundance of wheat and fresh fruit of the vine, young people would flourish and be glad. God's desire is to have everyone know how good and beautiful He is. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to enjoy His “goodness, beauty, wheat and fresh fruit of the vine” for all eternity.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Zechariah say, “ask you of the LORD rain”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
