God's Staff Named Beauty - Zechariah 11:10

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul loathed them, and their soul also abhorred me. Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dies, let it die; and that that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another”, and in chapter eleven and verse ten of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God spoke about, “my staff, even Beauty” where we read,

And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it asunder,

that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people.

The verse reads, And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it asunder, ... Zechariah began with the words, “and I took my staff” or “and I, Jehovah God, seized, fetched and lay hold of my, Jehovah God's, wand, stick or rod”, “even Beauty” which means “kindness, pleasantness, delightfulness and favor”, “and cut it asunder” or “and hewed, chopped in two and destroyed the staff”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said He lay hold of his rod which was named “Beauty” or “favor” and broke it in half.

The verse goes on to say, “that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people. Zechariah continued with the words, “that I might break my covenant” or “so I, Jehovah God, might make ineffectual, frustrate, crack and scatter my, Jehovah God's alliance, pledge, treaty and agreement” “which I had made” which means “that I, Jehovah God, formed” “with all the people” or “alongside each, every, the whole and everyone of the human beings both male and female”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God broke His rod named “Favor” to demonstrate His making ineffective His treaty with everyone of the people of Israel.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God said He lay hold of His rod named “Beauty” or “favor” and broke it in half to demonstrate the frustration of His agreement with everyone of the people of Israel. God kept His part of the alliance, but the people of Israel did not. God wants to have a personal relationship with all of us through His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us through His Holy Spirit to continue in a “covenant” agreement with Him.

Next time Zechariah shares how Jehovah God says, “it was broken in that day”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
