The Prosperous Seed - Zechariah 8:12

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah wrote, “Thus says the LORD of hosts; Let your hands be strong, you that hear in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, which were in the day that the foundation of the house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built. For before these days there was no hire for man, nor any hire for beast; neither was there any peace to him that went out or came in because of the affliction: for I set all men every one against his neighbor. But now I will not be unto the residue of this people as in the former days, says the LORD of hosts, and in chapter eight and verse twelve of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how the LORD said, “the seed shall be prosperous” where we read,

For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things.

The verse reads, For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; Zechariah began with the words, “for the seed” or “because, since and on account that the sowing time for the seeds of plants” “shall be prosperous” which means “will exist as complete, sound, peaceful and healthy”; “the vine shall giver her fruit” or “the twining or bending vine such as bear grapes will bestow, stretch out and constitute her, the vine's, produce or bough”, “and the ground shall give her increase” which means “and the land will grant, bestow, stretch out her, the ground's, produce or wealth of crop”, “and the heavens” or “and the visible skies where the clouds abide” “shall give their dew” which means “will grant, bestow, stretch out and constitute their, the skies', night mist”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said the planting seeds would be healthy, the twining vine will produce it's “fruit”, and the land will produce a wealth of crops while the clouds in the skies pour out their night mist.

The verse continues, “and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things. Zechariah added the words, “and I will cause” or “and I, Jehovah God, shall originate and make” “the remnant of this people” which means “the remainder, residue and what is left pertaining to this group of human beings, the people of Israel” “to possess all these things” or “to acquire, inherit and get each, every, the whole and everyone of these blessings”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said He would be the reason the people of Israel acquired the abundant blessings of crops, produce and night mist.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God is the provision for the people of Israel. Although they had abandoned Him in the past, He not only would restore them, but would be the source of their abundant blessings in crops, produce and mist from the clouds in the skies. God loves to bless people, and He certainly has blessed the people of Israel in these things. He also desires to bless us when we receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins as our personal “Savior and Lord”. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and “cause” His blessings to flow upon us according to His Divine purpose and will.

Next time Zechariah shares how the LORD says to Judah and Israel, “as you were a curse … so will I save you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
