In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people. And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD. And I said unto them, If you think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver”, and in chapter eleven and verse thirteen of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said to him, “cast it unto the potter” where we read,
And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prized at of them.
And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD.
The verse reads, “And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prized at of them.”Zechariah began with the words, “and the LORD” or “and Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “said unto me” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed to me, Zechariah”, “cast it unto the potter” or “throw, hurl and fling it, the thirty pieces of silver, to the framer of clay into shapes”: “a goodly price” which means “a magnificent, splendorous and glorious cost, honor and wealth” “that I was prized at of them” or “that I, the shepherd of Israel, was valuable, costly and apprised pertaining to them, the people of Israel”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God told him to throw the thirty pieces of silver to the one who makes pottery which was the splendorous cost that the shepherd of Israel was determined by the people of Israel.
The verse continues, “And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD.”Zechariah added the words, “and I took” or “and I, Zechariah, fetched, seized and lay hold of” “the thirty pieces of silver” which means “the thirty portions or parts of silver metal”, “and cast them to the potter” or “and threw, hurled and flung the thirty pieces of silver to the one who makes pottery” “in the house of the LORD” which means “within the dwelling place, abode and habitation belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Zechariah shared how he lay hold of the “thirty pieces of silver” and threw them to the one who made pottery within the dwelling place or temple of Jehovah God.
When we think through Zechariah's words in this verse, we discover through Zechariah how the price given for the betrayal of Jesus Christ, the shepherd of Israel, was thirty pieces of silver. (See Matthew 26:15) After Jesus was betrayed by Judas, he attempted to return the pieces of silver to the priests, but they refused them. Judas threw the pieces of silver at their feet and the priest bought a potter's field with them. (See Matthew 27:3-12) God's plan of salvation for mankind was told well in advance of it being fulfilled, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He provided an opportunity for all who believe and trust in Him to be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and shown over and over again how God's prophesy and desire was fulfilled in Jesus Christ His Son.
Next time Zechariah shares how Jehovah God says to Zechariah, “I cut asunder my other staff, even Bands”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
