In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah wrote concerning the people of Judah and Israel, “these are the things that you shall do; Speak you every man the truth to his neighbor; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates. And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbor; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, says the LORD”, and in chapter eight and verse eighteen of Zechariah, Zechariah again shared how, “the word of the LORD of hosts came unto me” where we read,
And the word of the LORD of hosts came unto me, saying...
The verse reads, “And the word of the LORD of hosts ...” Zechariah began with the words, “and the word” or “and the speech, utterance, declaration and proclamation” “of the LORD of hosts” which means “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God who is over the spiritual army of angels and warriors” did the following. Zechariah shared how once again Jehovah God who rules over the angel armies did the following.
The verse continues, “... came unto me, saying...” Zechariah added the words, “came unto me” or “occurred, happened and fell out to me, Zechariah”, “saying” “uttering, declaring and proclaiming” the words in our next verse. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God's speech and utterance happened to him yet another time and declared the words in our next verse.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover through Zechariah how Jehovah God continued to speak to him over and over again. Perhaps some time lapsed between these speeches, but nonetheless, God was talking with Zechariah. God had an intimate relationship with Zechariah, and He desires an intimate relationship with us as well. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of everyone, and when we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and empower us to listen to God speak and to live in a way that is pleasing to Him. (See John 16:13; Acts 1:8).
Next time Zechariah shares how the LORD talks about, “the the fast of the fourth month”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
