In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, the inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the LORD of hosts their God”, and in chapter twelve and verse six of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “in that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire” where we read,
In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.
The verse reads, “In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf;” Zechariah began with the words, “in that day” or “within that time period and season” “will I make the governors of Judah” which means “shall I, Jehovah God, cause the chiefs, chiliarchs or chieftains belonging to Judah whose name means praised and was the kingdom comprised of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin which occupied the southern part of Canaan after the nation split upon the death of Solomon” “like an hearth of fire” or “”similar and in likeness to a pot, basin or laver of fiery flames” “among the wood” which means “in the midst and middle of stock, plank, stalks or timber”, “and like a torch of fire” or “and similar and in likeness to a burning flambeau or lamp of fiery flame” “in a sheaf” which means “within a swath or row of fallen grain”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said He would cause the chieftains belonging to “Judah” to be similar to a laver of fiery flame on timbers and a flaming lamp within fallen grain.
The verse goes on to say, “and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left:” Zechariah continued with the words, “and they shall devour” or “and they, the governors, will consume and burn up” “all the people round about” which means “everyone of the neighboring nations”, “on the right hand” or “who exist upon the righthand side of them” “and on the left” which means “and upon the lefthand side of them”. Zechariah shared how the chieftains of “Jerusalem” will consume the nations who are to the righthand side of them and the lefthand side of them.
Finally the verse says, “and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.” Zechariah concluded this verse with the words, “and Jerusalem” or “and Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and is the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split”“shall be inhabited again”which means “will be dwelled in, abided in and lived in another time” “in her own place” or “within her, the people of Jerusalem's, own personal location”, “even in Jerusalem” which means “indeed within Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and is the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split”. Zechariah ended this verse by sharing how the city of “Jerusalem” will have people abiding within their own location once more.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God will cause the chieftains of “Judah” to be similar to basins of fiery flames upon timbers and in likeness to fiery flames within a row of fallen grain. Their effect would be to consume everyone of the neighboring nations who are to the righthand and lefthand side of them. This will cause “Jerusalem” to be filled with people again. Although the people of Israel, whose capital is “Jerusalem”, had forsaken God, He would come to their defense, and when He did, no one would be able to resist them. God loves the people of Israel, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross through them. When we put our faith and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bring us into an appreciation for His protection and provision for the people of Israel that causes them to return to “Jerusalem”.
Next time Zechariah says, “the LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
