In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines”, and in chapter nine and verse seven of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “I will take away his blood out of his mouth” where we read,
And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth: but he that remains, even he, shall be for our God, and he shall be as a governor in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.
The verse reads, “And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth:”Zechariah began with the words, “and I will take away his blood” or “and I, Jehovah God, shall remove his, the Philistine's, bloodshed or blood-guiltiness” “out of his mouth” which means “from his, the Philistine's, orifice in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking”, “and his abominations” or “and his, the Philistine's, detestable things, idols and filth” “from between his teeth” which means “separate and apart from among, in the midst of and within the center of his, the Philistine's, lex talionis or teeth within the mouth”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said He would remove the “bloodshed or bloody meat” from the mouths of the Philistines and the detestable sacrifices from their “teeth”.
The verse goes on to say, “but he that remains, even he, shall be for our God, and he shall be as a governor in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.” Zechariah continued with the words, “but he that remains” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover he, the person whether male or female, who continues, survives and is a remnant”, “even he, shall be for our God” which means “indeed the person whether male or female will exist on behalf of our Supreme Deity”, “and he shall be as a governor” or “and he, the person, will exist similar to a duke, captain, friend or intimate” “in Judah” which means “within Judah whose name means praised and the kingdom comprised of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin which occupied the southern part of Canaan after the nation split upon the death of Solomon”, “and Ekron” or “and Ekron whose name means emigration or torn up by the roots and was the most northerly of the five principal cities of the Philistines; located in the lowlands of Judah and later given to Dan” “as a Jebusite” which means “like a Jebusite whose name means descendants of Jebus and was the descendants of the third son of Canaan who lived in or around the site of Jebus, the early name for Jerusalem”. Zechariah shared how the people who continued within the Philistine cities would be for Jehovah God and would exist like a captain or intimate within “Judah” and “Ekron” similar to a descendant of Jebus.
When we consider Zechariah's words in this verse, we discover how Jehovah God would remove the abominable bloodshed and detestable idols from the middle of their teeth, however, the people who continued in those areas would be “for” the “God” of Israel and exist as like captains within “Judah” and as descendants of Jebus in “Ekron”. In other words, God would overtake the land of the Philistines and those left would give their allegiance to Him and the city of Jerusalem. God wants people to be in a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of His control over His people Israel and those who oppose them.
Next time Zechariah shares how Jehovah God says, “I will encamp about my house because of the army”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
