By the Blood of Your Covenant - Zechariah 9:11

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth, and in chapter nine and verse eleven of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “by the blood of your covenant I have sent forth your prisoners” where we read,

As for you also, by the blood of your covenant

I have sent forth your prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water.

The verse reads, As for you also, by the blood of your covenant ... Zechariah began with the words, “as for you also” or “even and indeed on behalf of you, the people of Israel and Zion”, “by the blood” which means “through the means of the bloodshed” “of your covenant” or “belonging to your, the people of Israel's, alliance, pledge, treaty and agreement”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God referred to the agreement that He made with the people of Israel through the means of bloodshed.

The verse goes on to say, “... I have sent forth your prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water. Zechariah continued with the words, “I have sent forth your prisoners” or “I, Jehovah God, have dispatched, assigned and freed your, the people of Israel's, captives and bondmen” “out of the pit” which means “from the well, cistern and hole” “wherein is no water” or “in which there exists not any water”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said He set free the captives of Israel from the waterless dungeon.

When we meditate upon Zechariah's words in this verse, we discover how Jehovah God referred to the “blood covenant”He made with the people of Israel as He told them he set them free from the waterless dungeon. God loves the people of Israel, and He freed them from their captors in Babylon. He will continue to be with them throughout the ages because He brought salvation to the world through them when He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His provision and protection through His Holy Spirit every day of our lives.

Next time Zechariah shares how Jehovah God says, “turn you to the strong hold”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
