In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “When I have bent Judah for me, filled the bow with Ephraim, and raised up your sons, O Zion, against your sons, O Greece, and made you as the sword of a mighty man”, and in chapter nine and verse fourteen of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “the LORD shall be seen over them” where we read,
And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning:
and the Lord GOD shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.
The verse reads, “And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning:” Zechariah began with the words, “and the LORD” or “and Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “shall be seen over them” which means “will be perceived, discerned, noticed and observed on account of, concerning and on behalf of them, the people of Israel”, “and his arrow shall go forth” or “and his, Jehovah God's, dart, staff or archers shaft will exit, proceed and depart” “as the lightning” which means “similar and in likeness to the the flashing and glittering lightning bolts”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God would be observed above the people of Israel, and His archer's shaft would proceed similar to flashing lightning.
The verse continues, “and the Lord GOD shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.” Zechariah added the words, “and the Lord GOD” or “and the title spoken in place of Yahweh in Jewish display of reverence who is the Supreme Deity” “shall blow the trumpet” which means “will sound, thrust and give a blast of the cornet, ram's horn or curved horn”, “and shall go with whirlwinds” or “and will proceed, depart and move by the use of tempests and storms such as hurricane” “of the south” which means “from the southern direction”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God who is the Supreme Deity will give a blast on the ram or curved horn and proceed with tempest from the southern direction as He rules over the people of Israel.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God will be involved in the battle which ensues over Israel. Not only would He rule over the people of Israel, but He would employ His “arrow” to proceed similar to flashing lightning in the sky. He would also give a blast on the trumpet and employ the violent weather to move against those who oppose Israel. God loves the people of Israel, and not only will He cover and protect them, but He will also employ the acts of nature He created to contend with those who are against them. God loves us, and He proved His love to us when He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and rule over, protect and provide for us against our enemies according to His purposes and plan for our lives. (See Philippians 4:19)
Next time Zechariah says, “the LORD of hosts shall defend them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
