In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said of Jehovah God, “how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! corn shall make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids”, and in chapter ten and verse one of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “ask you of the LORD rain” where we read,
Ask you of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain;
so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.
The verse reads, “Ask you of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain;” Zechariah began with the words, “Ask you of the LORD” or “inquire, beg and consult pertaining to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “rain in the time” which means “watering rain from the sky within the season” “of the latter rain” or “belonging to the spring rains which are usually in March and April which mature the crops of Palestine”. Zechariah instructed the people of Israel to beseech Jehovah God for watering rain within the season of the spring rains which mature their crops.
The verse continues, “so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.” Zechariah added the words, “so the LORD” or “even so and indeed Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “shall make bright clouds” which means “will cause thundering, lightning and storm clouds in the sky”, “and give them showers of rain” or “and grant, bestow and furnish the people of Israel with watering rains”, “to every one grass in the field” which means “toward each, the whole and all herbage and green plants within the land, plains and country”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God would cause thunderous clouds within the sky and watering rains that would provide the people of Israel with herbage in their planting plains.
When we think through Zechariah's words in this verse, we discover how the people of Israel were encouraged to beseech Jehovah God for the early and latter rains which would cause them to have an abundance of crops. The thunderous clouds in the sky and the watering rain were essential for produce given to the people of Israel, and all they needed was to ask Jehovah God to provide them. God loves the people of Israel, and in the same manner He will provide and protect anyone who yields to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to ask, seek and knock for anything we need for which He is willing to supply. (See Matthew 7:7-8; Philippians 4:19)
Next time Zechariah says, “for the idols have spoke vanity”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
