The Burden of the LORD's Word - Zechariah 9:1

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said concerning Israel and Judah, “Thus says the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you, and in chapter nine and verse one of Zechariah, Zechariah shared about, “the burden of the word of the LORD” where we read,

The burden of the word of the LORD in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be the rest thereof: when the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israel, shall be toward the LORD.

The verse reads, The burden of the word of the LORD in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be the rest thereof:Zechariah began with the words, “the burden of the word” or “the load, tribute, porterage and mental desire” “of the LORD” which means “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “in the land of Hadrach” or “within the country, territory, district and region belonging to Hadrach whose name means dwelling and was a city of Syria and modern Lebanon”, “and Damascus” which means “and Damascus whose name means silent is a the sackcloth weaver and was an ancient trading city, capital of Syria, located in the plain east of Hermon, 130 (205 km) miles northeast of Jerusalem” “shall be the rest thereof” or “will exist as the quiet, peaceful and consoling place within the land of Hadrach”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God's tribute and mental desire would exist within the territory of “Hadrach” or “Syria” in which “Damascus” would be the place God causes His fury to fall.

The verse goes on to say, “when the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israel, shall be toward the LORD. Zechariah continued with the words, “when the eyes of man” or “at the time and moment the physical eyes used for vision and sight belonging to human beings whether male or female”, “as of all the tribes” which means “even so and indeed each, every, the whole and everyone of the branches, offshoots and clans” “of Israel” or “belonging to Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name used and given to the northern kingdom consisting of the ten tribes under Jeroboam; the southern kingdom was known as Judah”, “shall be toward the LORD” which means “will exist regarding and in respect to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God spoke of the time that each and every physical eye of people would join with the nation of “Israel” as they looked toward Him.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how the people of the world will turn toward Jehovah God, and eventually every person who humbles themselves, repents of their sins and yields to God's Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind will have a personal relationship with Him. When we put our faith and trust in Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, we “look toward the LORD” and receive His forgiveness of sins, everlasting life and His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to the truth that He has revealed.

Next time Zechariah shares about, “Hamath also shall border thereby; Tyrus, and Zidon”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
