In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines. And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth: but he that remains, even he, shall be for our God, and he shall be as a governor in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite”, and in chapter nine and verse eight of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “I will encamp about my house because of the army” where we read,
And I will encamp about my house because of the army, because of him that passes by, and because of him that returns: and no oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with my eyes.
The verse reads, “And I will encamp about my house because of the army, because of him that passes by, and because of him that returns:” Zechariah began with the words, “and I will encamp about my house” or “and I, Jehovah God, shall guard, protect and watch over my, Jehovah God's, dwelling place, abode, habitation and temple” “because of the army” which means “since and on account of the guard, watch and military garrison”, “because of him that passes by” or “since and on account of the person who marches or traverses or overtakes”, “and because of him that returns” which means “and since and on account of the person who turns back”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God would watch over His temple on account of marauding forces, oppressors and people who attempt to return overtake His temple.
The verse continues, “and no oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with my eyes.” Zechariah added the words, “and no oppressor” or “and not any taskmaster, tyrant or exactor of tribute” “shall pass through them any more” which means “will march, traverse or overtake them, the people of Israel, at any other time”: “for now have I seen with my eyes” or “because, since and on account that at this time I, Jehovah God, have observed, noticed, discerned and discovered by the use of my physical eyes”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said there would no longer be any taskmasters or tyrant to overtake the people of Israel because Jehovah God would be watching over them.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God was going to be the overseer and protector of His “temple” and the people of Israel. No longer would He allow anyone to rule over or overtake them. God will indeed rule in Jerusalem, and He will rule in the hearts and minds of every person who yields to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us an understanding of His provision and protection over us and the people of Israel both now and forever.
Next time Zechariah says, “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
