Three Shepherds Cut Off - Zechariah 11:8

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock”, and in chapter eleven and verse eight of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “three shepherds also I cut off”where we read,

Three shepherds also I cut off in one month;

and my soul loathed them, and their soul also abhorred me.

The verse reads, Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; Zechariah began with the words, “three shepherds also” or “three herdsmen, leaders or rulers even so and indeed” “I cut off in one month” which means “I, Jehovah God, concealed, made desolate and hid within one lunar month or new moon”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said He would indeed remove three leaders within one lunar month.

The verse goes on to say, “and my soul loathed them, and their soul also abhorred me. Zechariah continued with the words, “and my soul loathed them” or “and my, Jehovah God's, living being, desire, emotion and passion was grieved, impatient and vexed with them, the the people of Israel”, “and their soul” which means “and their, the people of Israel's, living being, desire, emotion and passion” “also abhorred me” or “even and indeed disapproved of and execrated me, Jehovah God”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said His living being abhorred the people of Israel, and their hearts detested Him.

When we consider Zechariah's words in this verse, we discover how Jehovah God made desolate the people of Israel who were were governed over by the evil “three shepherds”. God despised them even as they despised Him in their souls. (Drusius said these leaders were John, Simon, and Eleazar) This is not the way God wants it to be, and people and leaders will be held accountable for the way they respond to those who govern over them and for those who are leaders over people. (See James 3:1) God's desire is to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us a passion for Him and His people that shall remain for all eternity.

Next time Zechariah shares how Jehovah God says, “I will not feed you: that that dies, let it die”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
