Defending Jerusalem - Zechariah 12:8

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah, and in chapter twelve and verse eight of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “the LORD will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem” where we read,

In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them.

The verse reads, “In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; Zechariah began with the words, “in that day” or “within that time period or season” “shall the LORD” which means “will Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem” or “hedge, cover and protect the dwellers, abiders and people who remain within Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and is the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God would cover and protect the people who dwell in “Jerusalem”.

The verse continues, “and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; Zechariah added the words, “and he that is feeble among them” or “and the person whether male or female who stumble, stagger and totter in the midst and middle of them, the people who dwell in Jerusalem” “at that day” which means “in that time period or season” “shall be as David” or “will exist similar and in likeness to David whose name means blessed and was the youngest son of Jesse and the second king of Israel”. Zechariah shared how the person who stumbles and staggers within the midst of the inhabitants of Jerusalem will be as mighty as “David”.

Finally the verse says, “and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them.” Zechariah concluded this verse by saying, “and the house of David” which means “and the dwelling place, habitation and abode belonging to David whose name means blessed and was the youngest son of Jesse and the second king of Israel” “shall be as God” or “will exist similar and in likeness to the Supreme Deity”, “as the angel of the LORD” which means “similar and in likeness to the envoy or messenger belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “before them” or “in front, in advance and prior to them, the people of Jerusalem”. Zechariah ended this verse by saying the dwelling place of “David” would exist similar to the Supreme Deity, and Jehovah God's messenger goes in advance of them.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God would defend and protect the people who live within “Jerusalem”, and the weakest people in the midst of them would exist similar to “David”. The people within the dwelling place of “David” would exist similar to the Supreme Deity with Jehovah God's messenger leading them. God loves the people of Israel, and when He defends and protects them, no one can defeat them. God loves us in the same manner, and He proved His love when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us an understanding of God's defense of Israel and those who dwell with them.

Next time Zechariah shares how Jehovah God says, “I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
