God Returning to Zion - Zechariah 8:3

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “Again the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying, thus says the LORD of hosts; I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I was jealous for her with great fury, and in chapter eight and verse three of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how the LORD said, “I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem” where we read,

Thus says the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain.

The verse reads, Thus says the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: Zechariahbegan with the words, “thus says the LORD” or “therefore, then and on this account utters, declares and proclaims Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”; “I am returned unto Zion” which means “I, Jehovah God, have come and turned back to Zion whose name means parched place and is another name for Jerusalem especially in the prophetic books”, “and will dwell” or “and shall live, abide and be inhabited” “in the midst of Jerusalem” which means “within the middle and center belonging to Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and is the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God made a declaration concerning His turning back to “Zion” and living in the center of the city of “Jerusalem”.

The verse goes on to say, “and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain. Zechariah continued with the words, “and Jerusalem” or “and Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and is the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split” “shall be called a city of truth” which means “will be proclaimed, declared and given the name of a dwelling place, abode and habitation pertaining to firmness, faithfulness, sureness and reliability”; “and the mountain” or “and the rising above the plain” “of the LORD of hosts” which means “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God who is over the spiritual army of angels and warriors” “the holy mountain” or “the separate, sacred, dedicated and hallowed rising above the plain or hill country”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God who rules over the angel armies said the dwelling place of “Jerusalem” would be declared to be an abode of sureness and reliability, and the“mountain” would be known as His sacred rising above the plain.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God purposed to live within the city of “Jerusalem”, and He would raise it to a level of sureness, reliability, respect and honor that would have the world know that this is a “sacred and set apart” “mountain”. God loves the people of Israel and the city of Jerusalem, and He set them apart to be the nation through whom all the world would come to know Him. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind through the nation of Israel, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us an understanding of His love for the people of Israel and how He used them to offer salvation to every person in the world.

Next time Zechariah shares how the LORD says, “there shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
