Inhabitants of One City Going to Another - Zechariah 8:21

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “Thus says the LORD of host; it shall yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities”, and in chapter eight and verse twenty-one of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “the inhabitants of one city shall go to another” again where we read,

And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another saying,

Let us go speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go also.

The verse reads, “And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another saying, ... Zechariah began with the words, “and the inhabitants” or “and the abiders, dwellers and settlers” “of one city” which means “belonging to a certain dwelling place, habitation, abode and town” “shall go to another saying” or “will walk, depart, move and proceed to one other dwelling place, habitation, abode and town uttering, declaring and proclaiming” the following words. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said the people who were located in a certain city would depart from that place and proceed toward another city while declaring the following words.

The verse goes on to say, “... Let us go speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go also.Zechariah continued with the words, “let us go speedily” or “allow and permit us, the people of the certain cities to walk, depart, proceed, traverse and move in a hasty manner” “to pray before the LORD” which means “to humble ourselves, entreat, beseech and be grieved in front, in the face and in the countenance of Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “and to seek” or “and to require, desire, exact and request” “the LORD of hosts”which means “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God who is over the spiritual army of angels and warriors”: “I will go also” or “I, the people of the certain cities, exist as determined to even so and indeed walk, depart, proceed, traverse and move toward the city of Jehovah God”. Zechariah shared how people from the other cities would declare their ambition to hastily enter in front of the countenance of Jehovah God and to humbly make requests of Him with a determination and resolve to depart to the city where He dwells.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah that Jehovah God said there would be people from other places that would speak to each other about going in front of Jehovah God to humbly beseech and look for Him. They would have something inside them that drove them to this decision, and it was indeed God who was drawing them back to a personal relationship with Him. Jehovah God will draw people to the city to pray before Him, and people from around the world will go up to Jerusalem to fulfill this prophecy. (See Isaiah 2:2-3) God loves people, and He will continually move inside every person who is willing to receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of the whole world. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a passion to be with Him, humbly entreat Him and “seek” Him in everything we do.

Next time Zechariah shares how the Jehovah God said, “many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
