Rejoice Greatly, O Daughter of Zion - Zechariah 9:9

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “I will encamp about my house because of the army, because of him that passes by, and because of him that returns: and no oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with my eyes, and in chapter nine and verse nine of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion” where we read,

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, your King comes unto you: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

The verse reads, Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, your King comes unto you: Zechariah began with the words, “rejoice greatly” or “exult, be glad and spin around with joy exceedingly, abundantly and to a great degree”, “O daughter of Zion” which means “oh female offspring and progeny belonging to Zion whose name means parched place and is another name for Jerusalem especially in the prophetic books”; “shout, O daughter of Jerusalem” or “raise a sound, cry out, give a blast or signal for war or march O female progeny and offspring belonging to Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and is the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split”: “behold, your King comes to you” which means “lo, look and consider, your, the daughters of Zion and Jerusalem's, Royal Ruler and Leader enters, is lead in and enumerated to you, daughters of Zion and Jerusalem”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God instructed the female offspring of Zion and Jerusalem to be abundantly glad and give a loud cry because their “Royal Ruler” enters among them.

The verse goes on to say, “he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. Zechariah continued with the words, “he is just” or “he, the Royal Ruler, exists as lawful, righteous and correct”,“and having salvation which means “and possessing liberation, deliverance and victory”; “lowly, and riding upon an ass”or “poor, afflicted, weak and humble, mounted and seated on a donkey”, “and upon a colt” which means “and on a young male foal or donkey” “the foal of an ass” or “the child or offspring belonging to a donkey”. Zechariah shared how the “Royal Ruler” exists as righteous and correct while possessing liberation and deliverance while He is humble as He is mounted upon a young donkey.

When we think through the words in this verse, we discover through Zechariah one of the prophetic verses concerning the Messiah Jesus Christ as it declares the coming of Jesus into the city of Jerusalem riding upon a donkey. (See Matthew 21:4-5; Mark 11:9-10; Luke 19:37-39) God wanted the people in Jerusalem to know He was sending His “Savior” to liberate and deliver them, and when He sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He provided the opportunity for us to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and given a reason to “rejoice exceedingly” and “shout aloud” for our “Royal King Jesus” has arrived.

Next time Zechariah shares how Jehovah God says, “I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
