In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prized at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD. Then I cut asunder my other staff, even Bands, that I might break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel”, and in chapter eleven and verse fifteen of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said to him, “take unto you yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd” where we read,
And the LORD said unto me, Take unto you yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd.
The verse reads, “And the LORD said unto me, ...” Zechariah began with the words, “and the LORD” or “and Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “said unto me which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed to me, Zechariah”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said the following words to him.
The verse continues, “... Take unto you yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd.” Zechariah added the words, “take unto you yet the instruments” or “fetch, seize, acquire and lay hold to you again, Zechariah, the articles, vessels, utensils or implements” “of a foolish shepherd” which means “belonging to a herdsman, ruler or leader who is silly and impious”.Zechariah shared how Jehovah God instructed him to lay hold of the implements belonging to a herdsman or leader who is worthless, impious and silly.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God began to give him another illustration for how He felt about the people of Israel. They rejected Jehovah God, and God was to show them what it was like when He was not in their lives. God wants to have a personal intimate relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit so we may have an understanding of how important it is to have Him governing over our lives.
Next time Zechariah shares how Jehovah God says, “I will raise up a shepherd in the land”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
