No Feeding Till Dead - Zechariah 11:9

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul loathed them, and their soul also abhorred me”, and in chapter eleven and verse nine of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “I will not feed you: that that dies, let it die” where we read,

Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dies, let it die; and that that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another.

The verse reads, Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dies, let it die; Zechariah began with the words, “then said I” or “wherefore, therefore and on this account uttered, declared and proclaimed I, Jehovah God”, “I will not feed you” which means “I, Jehovah God, shall in no way or manner tend to, graze or nourish you, the people of Israel”: “that that dies” or “the person who is killed, executed or perishes”, “let it die” which means “allow and permit that person to be killed, executed and perished”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said He would in no way or manner nourish the people of Israel, and should they perish because of it, allow and permit them to do so.

The verse continues, “and that that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; Zechariah added the words, “and that that is to be cut off” or “and the person who is to exist as hidden, concealed, desolate, effaced and destroyed”, “let it be cut off” which means “allow and permit that person to exist as hidden, concealed, desolate, effaced and destroyed”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said the person who becomes desolate is to be allowed to remain desolate.

Finally the verse says, “and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another.” Zechariah concluded this verse with the words, “and let the rest” which means “and allow and permit the people who are left, remain and survive” “eat every on the flesh of another” or “devour and consume each, the whole, all and everyone the physical bodies belonging to other people”. Zechariah ended this verse by sharing how Jehovah God said everyone who survives being killed or destroyed should be allowed to devour the physical bodies of each other.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah about a dramatic conclusion brought upon the people of Israel by Jehovah God. They rejected Him, and He was to reject them. Not only would many of them suffer death because He took His provision and protection away, but they would also be desolate and without food to the degree that they consumed the physical bodies of each other. God did not and does not want it this way. He loves people, and He proved it when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us provision and protection in this life and the next in keeping with His Divine purpose and will.

Next time Zechariah shares how Jehovah God speaks about, “my staff, even Beauty”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
