In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “Thus says the LORD of host; it shall yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities. And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go also. Yes, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD”, and in chapter eight and verse twenty-three of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations” where we read,
Thus says the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.
The verse reads, “Thus says the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, ...” Zechariah began with the words, “thus says the LORD of hosts” or “therefore, wherefore, then and on this account utters, declares and proclaims Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God who is over the spiritual army of angels and warriors”; “in those days” which means “within those time periods and seasons” “it shall come to pass” or “the following will happen, occur and fall out”, “that ten men” which means “that ten male human beings” “shall take hold” or “will prevail, become strong, courageous and resolute” “out of all languages” which means “from each, every, the whole and everyone of the tongues and speeches” “of the nations” or “belonging to the people groups which are non-Hebrew, foreign and Gentiles” will perform the following. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God spoke to him again and said it would happen that “ten men” from each of the tongues within the foreign people groups would do the following.
The verse continues, “... even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you:” Zechariah added the words, “even shall take hold” or “also and indeed will prevail, become strong, courageous and resolute ” “of the skirt” which means “pertaining to the extremity, edge, border and shirt” “of him that is a Jew” or “belonging to the person who exists as a descendant of Judah”, “saying” which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”, “we will go with you” or “we, the people who grasp the borders of the Jewish people's clothing, shall walk, come, depart, proceed and move alongside and accompanying you, the people of Israel and Judah. Zechariah shared how the time would come that the people from foreign “nations” would firmly grasp the borders of people who are descendants of Judah and proclaim that they would proceed alongside of them.
Finally the verse reads, “for we have heard that God is with you.” Zechariah concluded this verse with the words, “for we have heard” or “because, since and on account that we, the people from the foreign nations, have understood, perceived and given heed” “that God is with you” which means “that the supreme Deity exists alongside and accompanying you, the people of Israel”. Zechariah ended this verse by sharing how Jehovah God knew the people of the foreign nations perceived and understood that He was “with” them.
When we think through Zechariah's words in this verse, we discover how Jehovah God declared that “ten men” would become strong, courageous and prevail as they grasped the garments of the Jewish people because they perceived that Jehovah God is with them. The people from foreign nations purposed to travel alongside the people of Israel, and those who realize Jehovah God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind will also join Him because they have their sins forgiven, are granted everlasting life and are given the status of family along with the believers in Israel throughout all eternity.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see Zechariah share about, “the burden of the word of the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
