Jerusalem as a Burdensome Stone - Zechariah 12:3

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem”, and in chapter twelve and verse three of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how the LORD said, “I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people” where we read,

And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

The verse reads, And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: Zechariah began with the words, “and in that day” or “and within that time period or season” “I will make Jerusalem”  which means “I, Jehovah God, shall cause Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and is the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split” “a burdensome stone” or “an immovable rock” “for all people”which means “on behalf of each, every, the whole and everyone of the human beings from all nations”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said He would cause “Jerusalem” be exist as an immovable rock on behalf of every nation.

The verse goes on to say, “all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it. Zechariah continued with the words, “all that burden themselves with it” or “each, every, the whole and everyone who carries a load or infliction” “shall be cut in pieces” which means “will exist as incised, scratched and lacerated in pieces”, “though all the people” or “even if each, every, the whole and everyone of the human beings both male and female” “of the earth be gathered together” which means “belonging to the countries, territories, regions, districts and world are assembled and collected with one another” “against it” or “in opposition to Jerusalem”Zechariah shared how everyone who inflicts their own selves with the “burdensome stone” of Jerusalem will be lacerated in pieces even if the people of the whole world rise in opposition to them.

When we think through Zechariah's words in this verse, we discover how Jehovah God was to make Jerusalem an immovable rock that was to stand so strong that no one would prevail against them. God loves the people of Israel, and they were chosen by Him to be the nation through whom His Son Jesus would come to the world to die on the cross on behalf of the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us an understanding that no one shall prevail against Jehovah God's “immoveable rock” Jerusalem (Israel) even though every nation rises against them.

Next time Zechariah shared how Jehovah God says, “I will smite every horse with astonishment”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
