In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah wrote, “Thus says the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age”, and in chapter eight and verse five of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how the LORD said, “the streets of the city shall be full of girls and boys” where we read,
And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.
The verse reads, “And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls ...” Zechariah began with the words, “and the streets of the city” or “and the broad and open places, plazas and avenues belonging to the guarded place, place of waking and town” “shall be full” which means “will exist as abundant, completed and replenished” “of boys and girls” or “with youthful male and female offspring and progenies”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God declared that the open plazas and avenues of the town would be replenished with youthful “boys and girls”.
The verse goes on to say, “... playing in the streets thereof.” Zechariah continued with the words, “playing in the streets”or “laughing, sporting, singing and dancing within the broad and open places, plazas and avenues” “thereof” which means “within the town”. Zechariah shared how the young “boys and girls” would be laughing, singing and dancing within the avenues in the town.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God will bring such calm and tranquility to the city of Jerusalem that children will “play” in the open places and “streets”. God loves people, and His desire is to provide and protect them by having a personal relationship with them through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for their sins. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and watch over us and out children in a manner that is in keeping with His perfect will and plan for our lives.
Next time Zechariah shares how the LORD says this is, “marvelous in my eyes”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
