In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people. And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD”, and in chapter eleven and verse twelve of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “if you think good, give me my price” where we read,
And I said unto them, If you think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear.
So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.
The verse reads, “And I said unto them, If you think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear.” Zechariah began with the words, “and I said unto them” or “and I, the shepherd over Israel, uttered, declared and proclaimed to the people of Israel”, “if you think good” which means “whether and in case you, the people of Israel, have a pleasant, agreeable and excellent thought and mind”, “give me my price” or “grant, bestow and ascribe to me, the shepherd of Israel's, hire, wages, reward and pay”; “and if not” which means “and whether and in case they don't give the shepherd his wage”, “forbear” or “stop, cease, desist and leave it undone”. Zechariah told the people of Israel whether they had pleasant and agreeable thoughts toward their shepherd, they should provide to him wages, however, should they decide not to provide wages, cease and desist.
The verse goes on to say, “So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.” Zechariah continued with the words, “so they weighed for my price” or “therefore, then and on this account they, the people of Israel, counted out for my, the shepherd's hire, wage, reward and pay” “thirty pieces of silver” which means “thirty parts or portions of silver metal”.Zechariah shared how the people of Israel counted out thirty parts of silver metal.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how the shepherd over Israel appealed to the people of Israel to determine his value which was thirty silver pieces. This is a prophetic word over the people of Israel and their Messiah who is Jesus Christ. When Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus for “thirty pieces of silver”, he fulfilled this scripture. (See Matthew 26:15; John 13:2; 27-30). God was showing the people of Israel that a “Savior” was on His way, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, anyone who believes and trusts in Him may be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and taught value His prophetic words that proved to everyone that He wants to redeem the world.
Next time Zechariah shares how Jehovah God says to Zechariah, “cast it unto the potter”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
