God Destroying the Nations Against Jerusalem - Zechariah 12:9

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them, and in chapter twelve and verse nine of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem” where we read,

And it shall come to pass in that day,

that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

The verse reads, “And it shall come to pass in that day, ... Zechariah began with the words, “and it shall come to pass” or “and the following will happen and occur” “in that day” which means “within that time period or season”. Zechariah shared how the following was to occur within a certain season.

The verse goes on to say, “... that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. Zechariah continued with the words, “that I will seek to destroy” or “that I, Jehovah God, shall exact, require and desire to exterminate, overthrow and annihilate” “all the nations” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of the heathen, non-Hebrew and Gentile foreign people groups” “that come against Jerusalem” or “who rise in opposition to Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and is the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said He would desire to exterminate and overthrow every one of the non-Hebrew foreign people groups who rise up in opposition to “Jerusalem”.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God would defend “Jerusalem”against every people group who stands as enemies and foes to them. God loves the people of Israel, and any “nation” that comes against them, comes against Him. God wants to have a personal relationship with everyone of us through His Son Jesus who came through the lineage of Israel and died on the cross for our sins. When we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a passion for Israel and His defense of them against all foes.

Next time Zechariah shares how Jehovah God says, “I will pour upon the house of David”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
