In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how the LORD of hosts spoke concerning the people of Israel, “I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate”, and in chapter eight and verse one of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “again the word of the LORD of hosts came to me” where we read,
Again the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying, ...
The verse reads, “Again the word of the LORD of hosts” Zechariah began with the words, “again the word” or “another time the speech, utterance and proclamation” “of the LORD of hosts” which means “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God who is over the spiritual army of angels and warriors” did the following. Zechariah shared how the speech and utterance of Jehovah God did the following another time.
The verse goes on to say, “... came to me, saying, ...” Zechariah continued with the words, “came to me” or “happened, fell out and arose toward me, Zechariah”, “saying” which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming” the words in our next verse. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God's “utterance” fell out and happened to him and declared the words in our next verse.
When we think through the words in this verse, we discover through Zechariah how Jehovah God was to speak with him yet another time. One after another the declarations of God were being presented to Zechariah, and perhaps some time elapsed between each speaking, but nonetheless, God was sharing with Zechariah His intentions and desires for the people of Israel. God loves the people of Israel, and His desire was for them to follow Him in every way. He desires the same for us. When He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He provided an opportunity for all who believe and trust in Him to be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and given “ears to hear what” His “Spirit” says to us every day of our lives. (See Matthew 11:15;13:9, 43 and Mark 4:23).
Next time Zechariah shares how the LORD says, “I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
