In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “My anger was kindled against the shepherds, and I punished the goats: for the LORD of hosts has visited his flock the house of Judah, and has made them as his goodly horse in the battle”, and in chapter ten and verse four of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “out of him came forth the corner”where we read,
Out of him came forth the corner, out of him the nail,
out of him the battle bow, out of him every oppressor together.
The verse reads, “Out of him came forth the corner, out of him the nail, ...” Zechariah began with the words, “out of him” or “from him, Judah” “came forth the corner” which means “exited and departed the chief, stay, tower, chieftain or pinnacle”, “out of him” or “from him, Judah” “the nail” which means “the tent stake, pin or peg”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said the pinnacle or cornerstone and the tent stake proceeded from Judah.
The verse continues, “... out of him the battle bow, out of him every oppressor together.” Zechariah added the words, “out of him” or “from him, Judah” “the battle bow” which means “the archer's bow for war and fighting”, “out of him” or “from him, Judah” “every oppressor together” which means “each, the whole, all and everyone of the taskmasters, tyrants, exacters of tribute and rulers in union and alike”. Zechariah shared how the archer's bow for war and rulers alike were derived from Judah.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Judah was instrumental in bringing about the cornerstone, the tent stake, the archer's bow for war and the rulers alike. Each of these were to be employed in battle, and God is able to use both people and tools to carry out His mission of salvation for the world. The cornerstone, Jesus, was nailed to the cross with tent stakes, and an arrow or spear was used to pierce His side while He was to become the ruler and Lord of the world. God loves people, and He gave His Son Jesus through the people of Judah and Israel to offer salvation to every person who will put their faith and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us an appreciation for His Divine plan to rescue and save everyone who gives their life to Him.
Next time Zechariah shares how Jehovah God says, “they shall be as mighty men”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
