Strengthening the House of Judah - Zechariah 10:6

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said concerning Judah, “Out of him came forth the corner, out of him the nail, out of him the battle bow, out of him every oppressor together. And they shall be as mighty men, which tread down their enemies in the mire of the streets in the battle: and they shall fight, because the LORD is with them, and the riders on horses shall be confounded”, and in chapter ten and verse six of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “I will strengthen the house of Judah” where we read,

And I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph, and I will bring them again to place them; for I have mercy upon them: and they shall be as though I had not cast them off: for I am the LORD their God, and will hear them.

The verse reads, And I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph, and I will bring them again to place them; Zechariah began with the words, “And I will strengthen” or “and I, Jehovah God, shall make strong and mighty”  “the house of Judah” which means “the dwelling place, habitation and abode belonging to Judah whose name means praised and was the kingdom comprised of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin which occupied the southern part of Canaan after the nation split upon the death of Solomon”, “and I will save the house” or “and I, Jehovah God, shall rescue, liberate and deliver the dwelling place, abode and habitation” “of Joseph” which means “belonging to Joseph whose name means Jehovah has added and represented the northern kingdom of Israel”, “and I will bring them again” or “and I, Jehovah God shall return them, the people of Judah and Israel, another time” “to place them” which means “to set, put and establish them, the people of Judah and Israel”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said He would make the dwelling place of “Judah and Israel” mighty and strong as they returned to their home land.

The verse continues, “for I have mercy upon them: and they shall be as though I had not cast them off: for I am the LORD their God, and will hear them. Zechariah added the words, “for I have mercy upon them” or “because, since and on account that I, Jehovah God, have pity, deep love and compassion on them, the people of Judah and Israel”: “and they shall be”  which means “and they, the people of Judah and Israel, will exist” “as though I had not cast them off” or “like I, Jehovah God, had not forcefully rejected and spurned Judah and Israel”: “for I am the LORD their God” which means “because, since and on account that I, Jehovah God, exist as Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God their, the people of Judah and Israel's, Supreme Deity”, “and will hear them” or “and shall testify, answer and respond to them, the people of Judah and Israel”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said He would have pity and compassion on the people of Judah and Israel, and they would exist like He had never rejected them because He is Jehovah God and would respond to them.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover through Zechariah how Jehovah God caused Judah to be strong and rescued Israel while He carried them to the place He would establish them. After they left Babylon, the people of Judah and Israel were no longer divided and went back to Jerusalem as one. God had compassion upon them, and He cared for them as though they had never been rejected by Him. He was Jehovah God, and He would respond and be attentive to them. God loves Israel, and they were chosen as the people through whom His Messiah and Son Jesus would come to die on the cross for the sins of the world. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who shall teach us that God is for us and not against us even though we may have been in opposition to Him in our past.

Next time Zechariah shares how Jehovah God says, “they of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
