As Unto the Midianites - Psalms 83:9

In Psalms chapter eighty three Asaph referred to, “The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes. Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre. Assur also is joined with them: they have helped the children of Lot. Selah”, and in chapter eighty three and verse nine of Psalms Asaph said, “do unto them as unto the Midianites”, where we read,

Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison:

The verse begins, Do unto them as unto the Midianites; Asaph began with the words, “do unto them” or “fashion, accomplish and produce toward the countries and people who were enemies to Jehovah God and the people of Israel” “as unto the Midianites” which means “in similar manner to the Midian people whose name means strife and was the son of Abraham by Keturah and progenitor of the tribe of Midianites or Arabians which is the modern northwestern region along with regions of Palestine”. Asaph wanted Jehovah God to preform the same act against His enemies as He did to the Midian people.

The verse goes on to say,as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison: Asaph continued with the words, “as to Sisera” or “in likeness to Sisera whose name means battle array and was the name of a Canaanitish king and of one of the Nethinim”, “as to Jabin” which means “in likeness to Jabin whose name means whom God observes and was a king of Hazor who organized a confederacy of the northern princes against Joshua; a confederacy routed by the waters of Merom ”, “at the brook” or “in the location of the torrent, valley or wadi” “of Kison” which means “belonging to Kison whose name means winding and was a river in central Palestine”. (See Judges 4:2, 15-24) Asaph named the destruction of “Sisera” and “Jabin” as examples of the way Jehovah God should bring judgment upon His and the people of Israel's enemies.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph called upon God to respond to His and the people of Israel's enemies in a similar manner as He did the “Midianites, Sisera and Jabin”. Needless to say, God subdued these foes, and He will do the same for anyone who refuses and rejects His offer to be saved through His Son Jesus. Jesus was sent by His Father God into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive us, grant us everlasting life and manage those who rise up against us and Him in this life and the life to come.

Next time Asaph says, “which perished at Endor”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
