That Men May Know Jehovah - Psalms 83:18

In Psalms chapter eighty three Asaph spoke of the enemies of Israel and said, “Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yes, let them be put to shame, and perish”, and in chapter eighty three and verse eighteen of Psalms Asaph said, “That men may know that you, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, are the most high”, where we read,

That men may know that you, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, are the most high over all the earth.

The verse begins, That men may know that you, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, ... Asaph began with the words, “that men may know that you” or “so men, human beings both male and female, shall perceive, discern, discriminate, distinguish and acknowledge that you, Jehovah God”, “whose name alone” which means “whose reputation, fame and glory” “is JEHOVAH” or “is solely and by Himself the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Asaph wanted Jehovah God to allow His and the people of Israel's enemies to be “confounded, troubled, put to shame and perished” so that people would understand and acknowledge that He solely exists as “Jehovah God, the One True God”.

The verse continues,... are the most high over all the earth. Asaph added the words, “are the most high” or “exist as the uppermost ruler, lofty One and Supreme God” “over all the earth” which means “above each, every, the whole and every place throughout the entire country, region, land and world”. Asaph said people would recognize Jehovah God as the uppermost and Supreme God above all others in the world.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph desired that people would understand that Jehovah God exists as the Supreme God over all the world. Jehovah God reigns, rules and sits Supreme over every other being, and no one else comes close to being like Him. This same powerful and Almighty God desires to have a personal relationship with every one of us, and He made a way for that to happen through His Son Jesus whom He sent into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and become exalted in our own hearts and minds as the Supreme God of the Universe. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus who made a way for us to be with them perpetually and without end.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see the Psalmist say, “How amiable are your tabernacles, O LORD of hosts”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
