Turn Us O God - Psalms 85:4

In Psalms chapter eighty five the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “You have taken away all your wrath: you have turned yourself from the fierceness of your anger”, and in chapter eighty five and verse four of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Turn us, O God of our salvation” where we read,

Turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause your anger toward us to cease.

The verse begins, Turn us, O God of our salvation, …. The Psalmist began with the words, “turn us” or “return, come back and restore to us, the Psalmist and the people of Israel”, “O God of our salvation” which means “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God belonging to our, the Psalmist and the people of Israel's, deliverance, rescue, safety, welfare and prosperity”. The Psalmist appealed to the Divine judge Jehovah God who was his and the people of Israel's deliverer to restore them.

The verse continues,... and cause your anger toward us to cease. The Psalmist added the words, “and cause your anger toward us” or “and put aside, frustrate and make ineffectual your, Jehovah God's, wrath, fury, vexation, grief and frustration to us” “to cease” which means “to be ineffectual, shattered, split, cracked and broken apart”. The Psalmist desired that the Divine judge Jehovah God make His fury and wrath toward him and the people of Israel to be shattered and ineffective.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist desired that Jehovah God who was his and the people of Israel's deliverer to stop His wrath and fury from coming upon them. God desires to pour out His mercy and grace upon everyone who will yield to His Son Jesus. Jesus came into the world to die for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and remove His fury and wrath destined for those who refuse to believe in Him.

Next time the Psalmist asks Jehovah God, “will you be angry with us forever?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
