In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. And he answered and spoke unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused your iniquity to pass from you, and I will clothe you with change of raiment”, and in chapter three and verse five of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “let them set a far mitre upon his head”where we read,
And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head,
and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.
The verse reads, “And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, ...” Zechariahbegan with the words, “and I said” or “and I, Jehovah God, uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “let them set a fair mitre” which means “allow and permit them, the others before the angel, to place, appoint and lay a morally and ethically pure and clean turban or headdress” “upon his head” or “on his, the high priest Joshua's, summit, upper part and top of the head”. “So they set a fair mitre” or “therefore those who were instructed by Jehovah God placed, appointed and lay a morally and ethically pure and clean turban or headdress” “upon his head” which means “on his, Joshua the high priest's, summit, upper part, top and physical head of his body”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God instructed those before Him to place an ethically clean and pure turban or headdress upon the “head” of Joshua the high priest.
The verse goes on to say, “... and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.” Zechariah continued with the words, “and clothed him” or “and arrayed him, the high priest Joshua”, “with garments” which means “by the use of robes, vestures and apparel”. “And the angel” or “and the spiritual envoy and messenger” “of the LORD” which means “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “stood by” or “remained, continued and endured”. Zechariah shared how the ones before Jehovah God arrayed Joshua the high priest with robes and apparel as the spiritual messenger “stood” beside him.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God cared for “Joshua the high priest”, and although he was wearing “filthy garments”, Joshua was now being arrayed with vestures of purity with a clean headdress placed upon his head. God alone is able to take a soul which is “filthy” and make it clean, and because He loves people, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life, clothe us in His righteousness and crown us with His glory and honor for all eternity. (See Isaiah 61:3, 10; Revelation 19:7-8)
Next time Zechariah shares how, “the angel of the LORD protested”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
