In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “deliver yourself, O Zion, that dwell with the daughter of Babylon”, and in chapter two and verse eight of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said what happens, “after the glory” where we read,
For thus says the LORD of hosts; After the glory has he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that touches you touches the apple of his eye.
The verse reads, “For thus says the LORD of hosts; After the glory has he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you:”Zechariah began with the words, “for thus says the LORD of hosts” or “because, since and on account that for the following utters, declares and proclaims Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God who is over the spiritual army of angels and warriors”; “after the glory” which means “following behind the honor, splendor, abundance and dignity at the beginning” “has he sent me” or “extended, directed assigned and sent me, Jehovah God” “unto the nations” which means “to the non-Hebrew or heathen people groups” “which spoiled you” or “who plundered and made a prey of you, the people of Israel”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God who rules over the “angel armies” said following the initial deliverance of the people of Israel, He was dispatched to the heathen people groups who plundered and took advantage of them.
The verse goes on to say, “for he that touches you touches the apple of his eye.” Zechariah continued with the words, “for he that touches you” or “because, since and on account that the person or nation who extends toward, reaches to and strikes you, the people of Israel” “touches the apple of his eye” which means “extends toward, reaches to and strikes the pupil belonging to his, Jehovah God, eye for seeing”. Zechariah shared how anyone who rises against and strikes the people of Israel strikes the pupil of His “eye for seeing”.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God not only began the work of restoring the people of Israel, but was to return to complete it. The people who rose up against the people of Israel were also coming against Jehovah God, and woe be to those who attempt to rise up against the “apple” or “pupil” of His “eye”. In other words, woe be to those who come against Israel because they come against God. God loves all people, and He will bring them into relationship with Him when they surrender their lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us an understanding of the value of the people of Israel through whom Jehovah God brought salvation to the world.
Next time Zechariah shared how Jehovah God says, “I will shake my hand upon them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
