In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, says the LORD of hosts”, and in chapter four and verse seven of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God asked, “who are you., O great mountain?” where we read,
Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain:
and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.
The verse reads, “Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain:” Zechariah began with the words, “who are you” or “whosoever do you exist as”, “O great mountain” which means “O intense, important and exceedingly noble and proud rising above the plain or hill country”? “Before Zerubbabel” or “in the front, face and countenance of Zerubbabel whose name means sown in Babylon and was the grandson of king Jehoiachin and leader of the first group of returning exiles from Babylon” “you shall become a plain” which means “you, O great mountain, will exist as a level location, concord or even place”. Zechariah shared how the angel questioned the importance and exceedingly noble state of the rising of the plain as he declared that it would become as a level place after God contended with it. (See Isaiah 40:4)
The verse goes on to say, “and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.”Zechariah continued with the words, “and he shall bring forth” or “and he, Zerubbabel will go forward, proceed and lead the way with” “the headstone thereof” which means “the final precious plummet, capstone or foundation stone within the structure” “with shoutings” or “accompanied by noise, clamor and thunderous utterances”, “crying” which means “shouting aloud, yelling and proclaiming loudly”, “Grace, grace unto it” or “favor, elegance, charm and acceptance and favor, elegance, charm and acceptance toward it, the temple and Israel”. Zechariah shared how “Zerubbabel” would lead the way with the precious foundation stone to rebuild the temple while shouting aloud concerning the “favor and acceptance” of Jehovah God upon the temple and the people of Israel.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how not even a “great mountain” is able to impede the progression of the will of Jehovah God. God is able to remove obstacles to His purposes and plans according to His desire, and those who are commissioned to carry out His work, (Zerubbabel in this case), may rely upon His “Spirit” to accomplish the work for them. God loves people, and when there are obstacles in the way of His moving in their lives, He may move them at will. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind that kept us from a personal relationship with Him. When we put our faith and trust in Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who is able to make “great mountains” move and allow us to work in His Kingdom with His ability and strength.
Next time Zechariah says, “the word of the LORD came unto me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
