In Psalms chapter thirty one David said, “Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon you: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave”, and in chapter thirty one and verse eighteen of Psalms David said to Jehovah, “Let the lying lips be put to silence”, where we read,
Let the lying lips be put to silence;
which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
The verse begins, “Let the lying lips be put to silence;” David began with the words, “Let the lying lips” which means “allow and permit deceptive, fraudulent and wrong words” “be put to silence” or “exist as dumb, bound and tongue tied”. David appealed to Jehovah God to quiet the people who speak falsehoods and deceptive words.
The verse goes on to say, “which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.” David continued with the words, “which speak grievous things proudly” or “who utter, declare and proclaim forward, bold and arrogant words in a swelling, haughty and prideful way” “and contemptuously against” which means “and springing from evil, prosperity and judgment in opposition to” “the righteous” or “people who are right, just, correct and lawful”. David shared how “wicked” and evil people utter and proclaim arrogant words with pride and judgment in opposition to those who are right, correct and lawful.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David committed people who “lie” and speak boastful and judgmentally against the “righteous” to Jehovah God. David knew God knows all things, and there are no words that people speak of which He is unaware. Jesus said, “That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment” (See Matthew 12:36), and everyone will account for their words. God loves people, and He is willing to forgive every sin people commit whether they are with their words or actions because He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of the world. When we submit to Him, He will forgive our sins, words and all, and inherit everlasting life with Him. Let us give praise and glory to Jehovah God for His willingness to care even when others lie, speak proudly and grievously against us.
Next time David says to Jehovah God, “Oh how great is your goodness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
