Cutting Off the Spirit of Princes - Psalms 76:12

In Psalms chapter seventy-six Asaph said, “Vow, and pay unto the LORD your God: let all that be round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared”, and in chapter seventy-six and verse twelve of Psalms Asaph said, He shall cut off the spirit of princeswhere we read,

He shall cut off the spirit of princes: he is terrible to the kings of the earth.

The verse begins, He shall cut off the spirit of princes: Asaph began with the words, “He shall cut off the spirit” or “He, Jehovah God, will restrain, make inaccessible and withhold the breath, mind, vivacity and vigor” “of princes” which means “belonging to leaders, rulers, captains and overseers”. Asaph said Jehovah God would restrain and make inaccessible the vivacity and vigor belonging to rulers, captains and overseers.

The verse goes on to say,he is terrible to the kings of the earth. Asaph continued with the words, “he is terrible” or “He, Jehovah God, exists as revered, honored and respected” “to the kings” which means “toward the royal rulers” “of the earth” or “belonging to the land, country, territory, region and world”. Asaph said Jehovah God exists as awesome and kept in awe by the royal rulers within the world.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Jehovah God will restrain and withhold the vigor of the leaders and rulers in the world, and He is to be honored, revered and respected among the royal rulers as well. Paul the apostle wrote,As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God” (See Romans 14:11), and one day, everyone, leaders and otherwise, will bow before Jesus and confess that He is Lord. God gives us an opportunity to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and when we submit to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to worship Him in likeness to rulers and leaders who one day shall do the same.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Asaph say, I cried unto God with my voice, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
