In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God asked, “who has despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth. Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof? And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves? And he answered me and said, Know you not what these be? And I said, No, my lord”, and in chapter four and verse ten of Zechariah, Zechariah shares how the angel answered, “these are the two anointed ones” where we read,
Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.
The verse reads, “Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, …” Zechariah began with the words, “then said he” or “at that time uttered, declared and proclaimed he, the angel”, “these are the two anointed ones” which means “these, the two olive trees and branches exist as the two fresh, shining and pure oil sons or children”. Zechariah shared how the angel told him the two olive trees and branches represented two pure sons which were according to the following.
The verse goes on to say, “... that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.” Zechariah continued with the words, “that stand by the Lord” or “who remain, endure, tarry and abide beside and alongside the firm and strong master” “of the whole earth” which means “pertaining to the total and entire country, region, district and world”. Zechariah shared how the angel said the “two anointed ones” remained beside the strong and firm “master” of all the world.
When we consider Zechariah's words in this verse, we learn how the angel answered Zechariah's question as to what the“two olive trees and branches” were. They represented the “two pure sons” who remain beside Jehovah God would be used by Him to show how He is among the people in the world. (See Revelation 11:4) God would supply the “oil” for the lamp stand, and because His Spirit is within the world, people are drawn to a relationship with Him. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us an understanding that He has the world under His control and He will use His “anointed ones” through His Spirit to implement His plan.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see how Zechariah observes, “a flying roll”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
