More Glorious and Excellent than Mountains - Psalms 76:4

In Psalms chapter seventy-six Asaph said, “In Judah is God known: his name is great in Israel. In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion. There breaks he the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah”, and in chapter seventy-six and verse four of Psalms Asaph said, “you are more glorious and excellent than the mountainswhere we read,

You are more glorious and excellent than the mountains of prey.

The verse begins, You are more glorious and excellent than ... Asaph began with the words, “you are more glorious” or “you, Divine judge Jehovah God, exist as a greater illuminate, kindle and shining” “and excellent than” which means “and majestic, gallant, noble and more powerful compared to the following”. Asaph said Jehovah God is of greater illumination and more powerful than the following example.

The verse goes on to say,... the mountains of prey. Asaph continued with the words, “the mountains” or “the hill country, risings above the plain and hills” “of prey” which means “pertaining to the fullness or richness of game”. Asaph said Jehovah God was greater than mountains that were filled with game or “prey”.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph described the glory and excellence of Jehovah God to be more luminous and majestic than a range of mountains that are filled with game. God created the mountains, and He fills the earth with His glory. With all His glory, He continues to desire a personal relationship with every person who will believe and trust in His Son Jesus whom He sent into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind. God loves us, and when we yield our lives to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us His exceeding glory over and over again as we look for Him.

Next time Asaph says, the stouthearted are spoiled, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
