In Psalms chapter eighty three Asaph said, “Keep not you silence, O God: hold not you peace, and be not still, O God. For, lo, your enemies make a tumult: and they that hate you have lifted up the head. They have taken crafty counsel against your people, and consulted against your hidden ones”, and in chapter eighty three and verse four of Psalms Asaph said, “They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation”, where we read,
They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation;
that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.
The verse begins, “They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; ” Asaph began with the words, “they have said” or “they, the enemies of God have uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “come” which means “walk, proceed, lead and pursue”, “and let us cut them off” or “and allow and permit us, the enemies of Jehovah God, to destroy, annihilate, efface and desolate them, the people of Israel” “from being a nation” which means “from existing as a people and gathering together as a group”. Asaph shared how the enemies of Jehovah God called their own to proceed with annihilating Israel and wiping them off the map.
The verse goes on to say, “that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.” Asaph continued with the words, “that the name” or “so the fame, reputation and glory” “of Israel” which means “belonging to Israel whose name means God prevails and was the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob” “may be no more in remembrance” or “might no longer exist in memory, mention or mind”. Asaph continued to share how the enemies of Jehovah God desired to eliminate the fame and glory of “Israel” from any memory or mind.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Asaph said the enemies of Jehovah God wanted to eliminate the nation of Israel. They plotted and planned to have no one recall the existence of Israel, however, they forgot one thing – Israel is God's nation, and when they contend with Israel, they contend with God. God loves people, and He chose Israel to be the nation through which the Christ, His Son Jesus, would come to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield ourselves to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and rise up against anyone who comes in opposition to His chosen ones.
Next time Asaph says, “They have consulted together with one consent”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
