The Tabernacles - Psalms 83:6

In Psalms chapter eighty three Asaph shared how the enemies of Israel, “said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against you”, and in chapter eighty three and verse six of Psalms Asaph shared about, “the tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites”, where we read,

The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;

The verse begins, The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; Asaph began with the words, “the tabernacles of Edom” or “the nomad's tent, dwelling or habitation belonging to Edom whose name means red and was the descendants of Esau” “and Ishmaelites” which means “and Ishmaelites whose name means God will hear and was the descendants of Ishmael”. Asaph referred to the nomadic tents and dwelling places of the people of “Edom” or modern day Southern Jordan and the “Ismaelites” or modern day Western Saudi Arabia as the enemies of Jehovah God who were in opposition to the people of Israel.

The verse goes on to say,of Moab, and the Hagarenes; Asaph continued with the words, “of Moab” or “belonging to Moab whose name means of his father and was the nation and land inhabited by the people who descended from the son of Lot by his eldest daughter”, “and the Hagarenes” which means “and the Hagarenes whose name means wanderer and was a people dwelling to the east of Palestine, with whom the tribes of Reuben made war in the time of Saul”. Asaph mentioned both “Moab” or modern day Jordan and the “Hagarenes” or “Ishmaelites” and modern day Bulgarians who were also enemies to Jehovah God and the people of Israel.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph specifically named the people who were in opposition to Jehovah God and Israel. “Edomites, Ishmaelites, Moabites and Hagarenes” were just a few of the people who hated God and His people. We shall see how Jehovah God dealt with these people in our next few verses, but for now let us consider that God loves all people regardless of where they live, and when we humble themselves and surrender to His Son Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and defend against those who are opposed to Him and His people.

Next time Asaph shares about, “Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
