The Crowns - Zechariah 6:14

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “thus speaks the LORD of hosts, saying, behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne: and the shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both”, and in chapter six and verse twelve of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how the angel told Zechariah about, “the crowns” where we read,

And the crowns shall be to Helem, and to Tobijah, and to Jedaiah, and to Hen the son of Zephaniah, for a memorial in the temple of the LORD.

The verse reads, “And the crowns shall be to Helem, and to Tobijah, and to Jedaiah, and to Hen the son of Zephaniah, ...Zechariah began with the words, “and the crowns” or “and the royal wreaths” “shall be to Helem” which means “will exist toward Helem which is also spelled Heldai whose name means strength or dream and was a returned exile in the time of Zechariah”, “and to Tobijah” or “and toward Tobijah whose name means Jehovah is good and was the head of a family who returned from exile with Zerubbabel”, “and to Jedaiah” which means “and toward Jedaiah whose name means Jehovah has known and was a post exilic priest”, “and to Hen” or “and toward Hen whose name means favor and was a contemporary of Zerubbabel”“the son of Zephaniah” which means “the male progeny and offspring of Zephaniah whose name means Jehovah has treasure and was the father of Josiah and Hen in the time of the prophet Zechariah”. Zechariah shared how the “crowns or wreaths” were to be toward “Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah and Hen” for the following reason.

The verse continues, “... for a memorial in the temple of the LORD. Zechariah added the words, “for a memorial” or “on behalf of a remembrance, reminder, memento and record” “in the temple” which means “within the palace, nave and sanctuary” “of the LORD” or “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Zechariah shared how the “wreaths or crowns” were to be toward “Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah and Hen” as a reminder and memento of them within the sacred sanctuary of Jehovah God.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how these four men were to be memorialized by the “crowns” given to them within the sacred “temple” of Jehovah God. God wants a personal intimate relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us an understanding that He shall reward us with “crowns”that we shall lay at His feet when we are in Heaven with Him. (See Revelation 4:4, 10)

Next time Zechariah shares how the angel says, “they that are far off shall come and build in the temple of the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
