In Psalms chapter sixty nine David said, “Hear me, O LORD; for your lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of your tender mercies. And hide not your face from your servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily”, and in chapter sixty-nine and verse eighteen of Psalms David said, “draw near unto my soul” where we read,
Draw near unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of my enemies.
The verse begins, “Draw near unto my soul, and redeem it:” David began with the words, “draw near” or “come near, close and approach” “unto my soul” which means “to my, David's, inner man, mind, heart, living being and seat of emotions and passions”, “and redeem it” or “and act as kinsman, next of kin, relative and rescuer of David's soul”. David appealed to Jehovah God to come close and rescue His inner man, mind and heart.
The verse goes on to say, “deliver me because of my enemies.” David continued with the words, “deliver me” or “rescue, liberate and ransom me, David” “because of my enemies” which means “since and on account of my, David's, hating foes and adversaries”. David wanted Jehovah God to rescue him from his hating foes and adversaries.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David wanted Jehovah God to come close to and rescue his inner man, mind and heart. He needed God to liberate him from his hating foes, and he knew Jehovah God had the ability to do so. God had a personal relationship with David, and He desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all people, and when we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life, approach us, “redeem” our “souls” and “deliver” us from all hating foes.
Next time David says, “you have known my reproach”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
