Poor and Needy - Psalms 70:5

In Psalms chapter seventy David said, “Let all those that seek you rejoice and be glad in you: and let such as love your salvation say continually, Let God be magnified”, and in chapter seventy and verse five of Psalms David said, “I am poor and needy” where we read,

But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God:

you are my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying.

The verse begins, But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: David began with the words, “but I am poor” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover I, David, exist as afflicted, humble, wretched and weak “and needy” which means “and in want, chiefly poor and subject to oppression and abuse”: “make haste unto me” or “hurry, act quickly and come quickly toward me, David”, “O God” which means “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”. David recognized his own humility and subjection to oppression and abuse, so he repeated the idea of the Divine judge Jehovah God to quickly come to him.

The verse continues, you are my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying. David added the words, “your are my help” or “you, Jehovah God, exist as my, David's, succorer, aid and one who assists” “and my deliverer” which means “and my, David's, rescuer, liberator and security”; “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the One True God”, “make no tarrying” which means “do not hesitate, delay or tarry”. David declared Jehovah God to be the One who gave him assistance and was his liberator, so He again appealed to Him not to delay.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David “humbled” himself before Jehovah God, and because he was in need, he repeated his desire for the Divine judge to quickly come to Him. He knew Jehovah God was his succorer and liberator, and He cried out to Him not to hesitate to help him. God knows our situations and our needs, and when we have Him first in our lives, before anything else, He will come to our aid. (See Matthew 6:33) God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and “help and deliver” us as we humble ourselves before Him.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see David say, “In you, O LORD, do I put my trust”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
