Breaking the Ships of Tarshish - Psalms 48:7

In Psalms chapter forty eight David said, “the kings were assembled, they passed by together. They saw it, and so they marveled; they were troubled, and hasted away. Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail”, and in chapter forty eight and verse seven of Psalms David said, “you break the ships of Tarshish” where we read,

You break the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.

The verse begins, You break the ships of Tarshish ...” David began with the words, “you break the ships” or “you, Jehovah God, rend, violently wreck, crush, quench and rupture the sailing vessels, shipmen and seamen” “of Tarshish” which means “belonging to Tarshish whose name means yellow jasper and was a city of the Phoenicians in a distant part of the Mediterranean Sea to which the prophet Jonah was trying to flee”. David said Jehovah God wrecked and crushed the sailing vessels from the Phoenician city of “Tarshish”.

The verse goes on to say, “... with an east wind.” David continued with the words, “with an east wind” or “along with a breath of violent eastern air”. David said Jehovah God would violently crush and wreck the sailing vessels from “Tarshish” with a violently strong eastern air.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover the power of Jehovah God through David. His “violent breeze” is able to crush and wreck the sailing vessels belonging to “Tarshish”. The enemies of Jehovah God cannot stand against Him, and because people were under the control and influence of the enemy of our soul, Satan, who would keep us from a personal relationship with Him, God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we submit to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and blow away anyone who opposes those whom He loves. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus for making provision to “break” the violence of anyone who rises up against us.

Next time David says, “as we have heard, so have we seen, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
