In Psalms chapter forty nine David said, “My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding”, and in chapter forty nine and verse four of Psalms David said, “I will incline my ear to a parable” where we read,
I will incline my ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
The verse begins, “I will incline my ear to a parable:” David began with the words, “I will incline my ear” or “I, David, shall extend and bend my physical ear” “to a parable” which means “toward a proverb, aphorism, byword, poem or sentences of ethical wisdom and maxims”. David said he would bend his ear toward a proverb that he would utter to those listening.
The verse continues, “I will open my dark saying upon the harp.” David added the words, “I will open my dark saying” or “I, David, will free, loose, carve and engrave my, David's, riddle and difficult, enigmatic and perplexing question” “upon the harp” which means “on the lyre”. David said he would reveal his difficult and perplexing parable on a lyre.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David said he would not only bend his ear toward a proverb, but would also reveal his perplexing question by using a lyre as an instrument. David's Psalms were songs, and he often used them to convey spiritual ideas concerning God and His ways to the people who would listen to them. God wants people to know Him personally, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He made an intimate relationship with Him possible. When we yield to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to hear and reveal proverbs that relay the love of God to everyone who will listen.
Next time David says, “wherefore should I fear in the days of evil”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
