The Baton

A relay race did run the sage

events along did tell

of all the things that came to him

while on the earth did dwell

Thus in hand baton did move

Directed through his race

inclined to pass it on to those

behind him keeping pace

But alas when looking back

there none to take it hold

for all had yet forsaken him

and left him race alone

Distractions caused no time for him

or his attentive words

for disregard and unbelief

left sage to be unheard

And now on own the sage did run

completing finished task

baton in hand extended out

to those within his past

Twas all life long I gave to thee

baton within my hand

but thou refused and did neglect

the gifting I had planned

So run alone refusing one

without the mentor's help

and hope baton within thy hand

gives aid to banished yelp
