In Psalms chapter forty nine David said, “I will incline my ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp. Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?”, and in chapter forty nine and verse six of Psalms David shared about, “they that trust in their wealth” where we read,
They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
The verse begins, “They that trust in their wealth, ...” David began with the words, “They that trust” or “the people whether male or female who have confidence, faith and security” “in their wealth” which means “within their, the people's, strength, might, efficiency, goods and riches”. David presented the idea of people who have their confidence within their goods and riches.
The verse continues, “... and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;” David added the words, “and boast themselves” or “and praise, celebrate, rave and brag upon their own selves” “in the multitude” which means “within the abundance, greatness and numerous amount” “of their riches” or “pertaining to their, the people who boast's, wealth”. David said the people who “trust in their wealth” also brag about their own selves in the abundance of it.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David identifies people who not only have confidence in their riches, but also brag about themselves because of the abundance of them. They have ignored the idea that, “The earth is the LORD'S, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein”, (Psalms 24:1) and they credit themselves with their great ability to accumulate valuables. All “riches” and “wealth” will be left on the earth when we die, and only the “true riches” from Jehovah God will continue. (See Luke 16:11) God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus. When we submit to Him, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. This is the greatest “wealth” of all, and we shall enjoy the “riches” of it for all eternity.
Next time David shares how, “none of them can by any means redeem his brother”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
