In Psalms chapter forty nine David said, “I will incline my ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp”, and in chapter forty nine and verse five of Psalms David asked, “wherefore should I fear in the days of evil” where we read,
Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
The verse begins, “Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, ...” David began with the words, “Wherefore should I fear” or “for what reason or cause is there that I, David, should be afraid, in dread and astonished” “in the days of evil” which means “within the time period pertaining to bad, disagreeableness, malignancy, misery and displeasure”. David asked what reason existed that he should be afraid when times of trouble, malignancy and misery come.
The verse goes on to say, “... when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?” David continued with the words, “when the iniquity” or “at the time and moment perversity, depravity, guilt and punishment for iniquity” “of my heels” which means “belonging to my, David's, overreacher, supplanter or lier in wait” “shall compass me about” or “encompasses, surrounds and revolves around me, David”? David continued his question as he referred to times when his perverse and punishing enemies surround him.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David had such confidence in Jehovah God that even as periods of bad and trouble arose, he had no need to be afraid. As David's enemies surrounded him and sought to cause him damage and harm, David put his trust in Jehovah God, and there was no need to fear. David knew Jehovah God was his protection and security, and regardless of what or who attacked him, God would keep him safe. God loves people, and His desire is to be the provision and protection of every person through His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus into the world to die for the sins of all mankind, and Jesus rose from the dead three days later. This gave everyone an opportunity to receive Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and accompany us with His Holy Spirit every day of our lives. We have no need to fear. God is here, and those who are wise surrender to Him.
Next time David shares about, “they that trust in their wealth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
