In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said to the bride, “This your stature is like to a palm tree, and your breasts to clusters of grapes. I said, I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof: now also your breasts shall be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of your nose like apples”, and in chapter seven and verse nine of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said, “the roof of your mouth like the best wine” where we read,
And the roof of your mouth like the best wine for my beloved,
that goes down sweetly, causing the lips of those that are asleep to speak.
The verse reads, “And the roof of your mouth like the best wine for my beloved, ...” Solomon began with the words, “and the roof of your mouth” or “and the palate or inside of your, the bride's, orifice in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking” “like the best wine” which means “exists similar and in likeness to the most pleasant, agreeable, excellent, valuable and rich fermented fruit of the vine”. Solomon shared how the groom said the inside of the bride's “mouth”tasted sweeter than the most excellent and valuable fruit of the vine.
The verse goes on to say, “... that goes down sweetly, causing the lips of those that are asleep to speak.” Solomon continued with the words, “that goes down sweetly” or “that descends, proceeds and moves downwardly in an even, upright, straight and smooth manner” “causing the lips” which means “gliding gently over physical lips” “of those that are asleep” or “belonging to people who are remain long or are sleeping” “to speak” which means “to utter, declare and make proclamations”. Solomon shared how the bride responded to the groom by saying her mouth that was similar to the “best wine” and proceeds in a smooth downward direction that moves gently over the “lips” of people who are sleeping and causes them to begin making proclamations.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the groom compared the “mouth” of the bride to the most supreme fermented fruit of the vine, and she responded that people who drink it make their physical lips similar to those who are sleeping and begin to talk. Again the groom spoke of another wonderful physical feature of the bride as her “mouth” was intoxicating to him. This is a beautiful picture of “love” between a husband and wife and becomes a great analogy for the way God loves us. He is our Creator God, and He desires to have an intimate personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us features that cause Him pleasure and delight for all eternity.
Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, “I am my beloved's” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
